Subject: RE: HCW PeP vaccine for positive MP case

At the risk of being blasted into politically incorrect oblivion, when this has nothing to do with politics, wouldn't refraining from anonymous sex for 2 incubation periods end the outbreak at a much lower cost and energy?

Have there been any prevention messages to the MSM community?

It is a taboo subject. We encountered this back in 2013 with meningococcal outbreak. It is perceived as insensitive (or worse) to suggest that MSM should alter behavior, even temporarily.

Well, I am also wondering why no prevention message has gone out, as I've said, this outbreak could be stopped if the community took a few (temporary) steps to place a moratorium on anonymous sex.

When there's contaminated lettuce, people stop buying and eating.

Subject: sad prediction

MPX will become an endemic STI in NYC, taking it's place alongside gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis and herpes. Soon we will start to see cases in women, then among non-MSM and not long after that we will have our first congenital infection. It will happen on our watch. We cannot vaccinate our way out of this, nor can we isolate our way out of this. The only way out is to abstain. I know I sound like a bible thumping preacher, but this is the exposure we need to PREVENT. We don't have much time to intervene and it may already be too late.

Subject: RE: team assignments

This disease is entirely preventable had we the courage to send out prevention messages. I understand the reluctance to warn people to refrain from anonymous sex, yet harm reduction has not made an appearance. We seem paralyzed by the fear of stigmatizing this disease while we totally ignore the epidemiology. If we had an outbreak associated with bowling, would we not warn people to stop bowling?
